Each Ketubah is different. The complexity of the design and time needed as well as any translation needed will determine the cost. Prices start at $700 and most Ketubahs run around $900.
Why invest in a commissioned Ketubah?
Weddings are expensive. The average American wedding will cost an average of $25,000 and in larger cities it can be much more. We spend so much money, but what's left of that investment when the band stops playing, the food and the cake have been eaten, the venue starts stacking up chairs and folding tables, the flowers have died, and your designer wedding gown is boxed up for preservation? One week after your wedding day there isn't much left. My advice is, get a great photographer, videographer and a commissioned Ketubah that you can proudly display in your home and look at every day of your life. A custom painted Ketubah captures who you are, your commitment to one another and your Jewish heritage. There are many websites and Judaica shops where you can purchase a pre-printed Ketubah. The downside is that pre-printed Ketubahs will have empty spaces for the wedding details such as the date, location and names of the bride and groom to be written in. These spaces are often too short or too long to accomodate the details. This can make for a very sloppy looking Ketubah. Most pre-printed Ketubot still run an average of $300-$500! Unlike canvas, paper is still very vulnerable to getting bent, torn or stained.
